About Us

In summary:

• CFCV was formed to provide a political voice on firearm policies.
• Shooting activities remain under threat.
• CFCV offers full and associate membership.

The CFCV was formed as a political voice for shooters out of the handgun debate in late 2002. However our focus is not just on just handguns. The CFCV was formed to deal with the broader issue of how firearms policy is developed.

A pattern had been emerging where political decisions were made without regard to those affected by them - often under pressure from the media. "Policy on the run" never works in the longer term and the shooting community is the one that always suffers - along with the rest of the community when it loses an affordable, safe and legitimate activity. We think we have now 'nipped the problem in the bud'.

Future battles will be for:
  • duck and other forms of hunting;
  • the use of centre fire rifles;
  • any form of handgun shooting;
  • the ability of juniors to take up shooting; and
  • the licensing process & licence renewals

Full members of the CFCV are organisations recognised as representing legitimate firearm interests.

The full members are:

  • Field & Game Australia
  • Firearm Traders Association
  • IPSC
  • Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (Vic)
  • Target Rifle Victoria
  • Victorian Amateur Pistol Association
  • Victorian Clay Target Association
  • Victorian Rifle Association
  • Vintagers (Order of Edwardian Gunners) Inc

Associate Members are individuals who subscribe to the objectives of the CFCV. Only Full Members (being state organisations) have voting rights, however Associate Members support and play important roles in CFCV activities.
